A very engaging, cool game! I playing quite a lot, compared to other newgrounds games. It's fun, but also frustrating when the rng just doesn't give you the tools to survive. Good tactics are needed to win, but ultimately, if and when I win is a matter of endurance and luck, not my skill, which takes a bit of the fun out if it for the kind of player I am. It does deserve its awards!

SparseGameDev responds:

Thanks for the feedback! I've just released an update that makes item spawns more consistent; hopefully it will cut back on the RNG aspect a little and make more runs viable.

Oh, those are the hands! At first I thought the character had a cape.
All in all, a charming little game with potential.

I think everything this game set out to do, it did well. Good controls (the floaty feeling requires getting used to), cute artwork, fitting music.
Though I gess it's kind of an inside knowledge thing about why there's 'mage' in the title?

A nice and simple game. The gradually increasing difficulty makes for a good hook to keep playing and investing effort. Control and visual and audio feedback are great. About the only suggestions I have are to add music and maybe give the control a slightly more organic feel. By that I mean making the movement of the bar less linear. Maybe it could have a bit of acceleration and deceleration.

It's a good first game to get accustomed to game making and trying stuff out, in that regard I think it's a fine project, but I think it doesn't hold enough entertainment value to keep playing for more than a few seconds as it is now. To expand on this project, you could add sound effects, make more interesting sprites for bonuses and enemies and diversify the game in general - more movement options, different types of enemies, levels, and so on.

Games like this, free to play on the web inspired me to eventually make my own! Kingdom of Liars was one of those games that stuck in my mind.

Awesome! Had good fun playing it!

At first I wasn't impressed, but then it grew on me. Nice tricks for the later levels!

I can feel the strong emotions that went into this project. I think I have felt something similar throughout my own life, so I can sympathize.
The content I can not give a rating, instead the rather low score I gave is due to the presentation. I assume English is not your first language and thus mistakes are understandable. More important to me however, is that you used many pictures and soundtracks without stating if you made them yourself, used an AI, aquired licences, commissioned them, found them under the public domain or anything else really.

ElvenNeko responds:

All of the images were AI generated, the artist is Midjourney. The soundtracks are from royalty-free music sources, also there are two songs from major bands, and they are creditted in setup. But since i found no way to upload a setup on this site, it's not visible. Also i found out that main menu music simply does not load here, and timings are also broken in web version. So for the full expirience and all the credits you can look for install package on itch: https://elvenneko.itch.io/alien
